Property Custom Variables are custom fields that you create at the account level.
Once you create a Custom Property Field, it becomes available on your properties, where you can enter a different value for each property.
ChargeAutomation then generates a variable that you can insert into supported guest communication.
For example, you could create a Custom Property Field called:

You can then use this variable in your automated messages or Digital Guidebooks.
When the content is displayed to a guest, ChargeAutomation automatically replaces the variable with the information saved for that guest's property.

Step 1 — Open Custom Fields
In your ChargeAutomation account, go to: Settings → Preferences → Custom Fields
Step 2 — Create a New Custom Field
Click New Custom Field.
You will be asked to select the Field Type and enter a Display Name.
Choose a name that clearly describes the information you want to store.
Display Name: Parking Instructions
ChargeAutomation will automatically generate the corresponding variable name.
💡 Tip: Use clear and descriptive names. This makes it easier for you and your team to understand what each variable is used for.
Step 3 — Select the Field Type
Select the field type that best matches the information you want to store.
For longer information, such as:
Parking instructions
Wi-Fi details
Check-in instructions
House rules
Property access information
Guidebook content
We recommend using Long Text.
Step 4 — Save the Custom Field
After entering the Display Name and selecting the Field Type, click Save.
ChargeAutomation will automatically generate the variable name.

Creating the Custom Field does not automatically add the property's information.
You must add the appropriate value to each property.
Go to: Properties→ Property Info → Guidebook Content → Custom Property Fields
The Custom Property Fields you created will appear here.
Enter the information that should be displayed for that property.

Property value: Parking is available in the driveway. Please use the space on the left side of the property.
Then click Save Property.

Use clear names

Clear naming makes your account easier to manage as you create more variables.
📝 Keep information up to date
If information changes — such as a Wi-Fi password, access procedure, or parking arrangement — update the value on the relevant property.
You won't need to edit every message or Guidebook that uses the variable.
📚 Use Long Text for detailed information
For instructions containing multiple sentences or paragraphs, use the Long Text field type. This is particularly useful for parking, access, Wi-Fi, house rules, and check-in information.
🔍 Always check your property values
After creating a Custom Field, make sure each relevant property has the correct value entered and that the property has been saved.
If a property does not have a value for a Custom Field, the variable may appear empty in guest-facing content.
⚠️ Important Notes
Custom Property Fields are created at the account level.
Once created, the field can be populated with different information for each property.
ChargeAutomation automatically generates the variable name.
You need to save the property after entering or updating its Custom Property Field values.
If a property has no value for a variable, the variable may appear empty when displayed to the guest.
Use descriptive field names so your team can easily identify each variable.
