How To Set Up Your Custom Domain in ChargeAutomation

Learn how to set up a custom domain in ChargeAutomation to deliver a seamless, fully branded guest experience.

Written by Toyin Odujebe

Setting up a custom domain (also known as white-labeling) in ChargeAutomation allows you to replace the standard app.chargeautomation.com links with your own branded URL (e.g., checkin.yourdomain.com).

This helps build guest trust and can improve completion rates for pre check-in.

Step #1 In your upper right-hand corner dropdown, select Custom Domain

Step #2 Choose Your Domain Type

  • Subdomain (Recommended): This is the standard and most reliable method. Example: checkin.yourdomain.com.

  • Primary/Naked Domain: Using your main domain (e.g., yourdomain.com) is not recommended due to technical complexities with SSL and DNS. If you must use it, you should set up a 301 redirect from the naked domain to the www version and white-label the www subdomain. Custom Domain - White Labelling of a Primary/Naked Domain

Step #3: Enter Your Domain

In the Custom Domain section, you will see a field labeled "Enter your domain name." Here, type in the full domain name you wish to use (for example, checkin.yourdomain.com)

Step #4: Configure Your DNS Records

You must add a specific record to your domain's DNS provider (e.g., GoDaddy, Cloudflare, Namecheap):

  • Type: CNAME

  • Name/Host: checkin (or whatever subdomain you chose)

  • Value/Points to: app.chargeautomation.com

  • TTL: Auto or 3600

Step #5: Verification and SSL

  1. Once the DNS record is added, return to the ChargeAutomation portal and click Verify or Try Again.

  2. The system will check for the CNAME record and provision an SSL certificate automatically via Cloudflare. You do not need to provide your own certificate.

  3. Stability Check: The system will monitor the DNS for stability. Once verified, the status will turn green.

Step #6: Activation

  • After verification, you may need to click Activate or Pay (if your plan requires a separate fee for custom domains).

  • Once active, all your guest links will automatically use your new custom domain.

đŸȘ§Important Considerations

  • Redirection: If you ever deactivate your custom domain, ChargeAutomation will automatically redirect traffic back to the default app.chargeautomation.com domain so your guest links don't break.

  • Propagation: DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to propagate globally.
