What Are External Upsells?

External Upsells allow you to add a link to an external service or experience and display it directly in the Guest Portal.

Guests can discover your recommended services alongside their other guest journey information and follow the provided link to explore or purchase the service.


Examples of External Upsells

You can promote almost any relevant third-party service, including:

  • 🚌 Tours & Excursions – city tours, wine tastings, adventure packages

  • 🍽️ Restaurant Reservations – partner restaurants, chef’s table experiences

  • 🚖 Transportation Services – airport pickups, private drivers, shuttle services

  • 🎟️ Event Tickets – concerts, festivals, or local attractions

  • 💆 Wellness Add-Ons – spa treatments, yoga classes, fitness passes

How to Set Up an External Upsell

  1. Go to Upsells in your ChargeAutomation dashboard.

  2. Click Create Upsell, or edit an existing upsell.

  3. Set the Upsell Type to External.

  4. Enter the full URL for the third-party service or offer.

  5. Add an engaging title, description, and image to help guests understand the offer.

  6. Configure any applicable property or booking-source settings.

  7. Save and publish the External Upsell.

Once published, the external offer will be available to eligible guests through their Guest Portal.


Best Practices

For the best guest experience:

  • Use an embeddable URL supported by the third-party provider.

  • Choose a clear and descriptive title so guests immediately understand the offer.

  • Use high-quality, relevant images to make the offer more appealing.

  • Keep descriptions short and informative, highlighting the main benefit to the guest.

  • Promote services that are relevant to your property's location and guest profile.

  • Test the external link before publishing to make sure guests can access the service successfull
